The mission of the NOW-NJ
Mothers and Caregivers Economic Rights Task Force (NOW-NJ MCER Task
Force) is to continue the work that the National Organization for Women
(NOW) has done for our nation's unpaid caregivers and mothers. NOW has
worked tirelessly for programs and policies that have made life better
for all people: the Family and Medical Leave Act, Paid Family Leave
Insurance, Tax Credits for our Unpaid Caregivers, and strengthening our
current Social Security System by factoring in credited years to our
Unpaid Caregiving workforce.
Through the work of NOW-NJ activists under the leadership of NOW-NJ
president Suzannah Porter, NOW-NJ MCER Task Force is currently working
with the Time to Care Paid Family Leave coalition (link to PFL action
page). Local Mothering NOW-NJ Task Forces are working to build feminist
community and educate the public to these issues.
The NOW-NJ MCER Task Force is focusing specifically on the persistant
economic devaluation of the work of the unpaid caregiving community as
is perpetuated by corporate culture and our nation's government. We are
looking for answers to these problems on state and local levels by
encouraging dialog between members of the unpaid caregiving community,
business owners and our civic leaders.
