NEW YORK--Apr 14, 2004--Women's eNews, a New York-based nonprofit
independent news organization, will be dispatching a team of eight
journalists to cover every angle of the March for Women's Lives in
Washington, D.C., on April 25.
The team will update Women's eNews home page,
www.womensenews.org
throughout the day of the march.
The march will be attended by more than 1,000 women's rights, civil
rights and health care organizations, alongside religious leaders from
all 50 states, to protest in the nation's capital the persistent
governmental restrictions of women's health and reproductive rights.
Organizers say they expect more than 750,000 marchers, an unprecedented
number.
Women's eNews specializes in global coverage of issues that are of
particular concern to women. It will use the team coverage to produce
the most comprehensive and up-to-the-minute coverage of this national
event.
Launched in 1999, the prize-winning nonprofit news service is the
definitive source of substantive news on women's rights.
In addition to Rita Henley Jensen, editor in chief of Women's eNews,
Alexandra Poolos, Cynthia L. Cooper, Allison Stevens, Asjylyn Loder,
Emma Pearse and Shaya Mohajer will report from the two-mile march route
and the National Mall.
They veteran journalists have reported for such publications as The Wall
Street Journal, The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Christian
Science Monitor, The Village Voice, Newsday, The National Law Journal
and many more.
Photographer Jennifer Crandall will capture the day-long event in a
real-time photo essay.
Seven organizations are co-sponsoring the March For Women's Lives: the
American Civil Liberties Union, Black Women's Health Imperative,
Feminist Majority, NARAL, Pro-Choice America, National Latina Institute
for Reproductive Health, National Organization for Women (NOW) and
Planned Parenthood Federation of America.
Additionally, for the first time in its 95-year history, the National
Association for the Advancement of Colored People board of directors
unanimously endorsed a pro-choice march.
"This is an issue of equal rights, and we are pleased to join those
insisting on a woman's right to control her own body," said NAACP Board
Chair Julian Bond.
