The March has a New Name!

The March for Choice is now called the March for Women’s Lives. "The March for Women's Lives" addresses the assaults on women's rights and lives, both nationally and globally, that restrict women's access to reproductive health services and limit women's ability to have a child or to end a pregnancy. The name change reflects the urgency of the issue and the huge diversity of the groups co-sponsoring the march. The new name better represents the broad agenda of those who support women's reproductive health, justice, and freedom, as well as access to family planning and abortion. Our website has changed to http://www.marchforwomen.org though the previous address will still work. We will have a new logo available very soon and will inform you all when it is available.

The March Welcomes 2 New Organizer Groups

The Black Women’s Health Imperative and the National Latina Institute for Reproductive Health have joined the Feminist Majority, NARAL Pro-Choice America, the National Organization for Women, and Planned Parenthood Federation of America as March Organizers. We welcome their support and contributions and look forward to the work we can do together.

Attend a March Volunteer Briefing

With the holidays and the end of the year approaching, we want you to make major plans to commit volunteer time and energy to help us build the March for Women’s Lives. We can’t do this without you. Make it your New Year’s resolution to commit now to volunteer.

Mark your calendar for Saturday, January 10 at 11:00am or Wednesday, January 14 at 6:30pm for a major volunteer briefing event at the March for Women’s Lives office at 1725 I (Eye) St. NW, Third floor, Washington, DC.

Come get the latest update on March plans. Find out how you can get involved. Get briefed on how you can volunteer and organize. We will cover various tasks and aspects of organizing needed. You will be able to sign up to work events, speak, leaflet and poster, data entry; or phone bank to local and national activists organizing delegations. Bring friends and a list of others to recruit.

RSVP to Laura Barwick at lbarwick@marchforwomen.org or 202-349-3838 so we will know how much pizza and cold drinks to order.

Delegations & Events

Meredith King and Brittany Turner are now the National Outreach Liaisons for the March. They will be maintaining a national calendar of events surrounding the March, and will be responsible for coordinating materials and speaker requests for these events. They will also be assisting individuals and delegations from across the country with any questions or problems they encounter while organizing for the March and gathering information on transportation arrangements to Washington. Contact them at mlking@marchforwomen.org and bturner@marchforwomen.org to register your delegation, share how you will be getting to Washington, or any organizing questions, problems or suggestions you may have.

Winning Strategies

Planned Parenthood of Central North Carolina sent out an alert suggesting that supporters give bus tickets to the March as holiday gifts. We think this is a great idea and encourage everyone to consider giving March travel tickets as holiday gifts. Contact your local organizing groups to find out how to purchase March travel tickets from your area. You can search our co-sponsor list found at http://www.marchforwomen.org/content/index.php?pid=41 or contact local affiliates of March organizers.

Do you have a success story about organizing for the March in your area? A good organizing tip? Or a useful fundraising idea? Submit it to us for possible inclusion in the future bi-monthly updates. Send to: info@marchforwomen.org. Remember, we can't do this March without you!
