5th Biennial Family Conference of Lambda Families of New Jersey

Lambda Families of New Jersey (LFNJ), a not-for- profit gay & lesbian parenting group in NJ, will hold its 5th Biennial Family Conference on Saturday, October 22. This full-day event offers workshops for gay and lesbian parents and those thinking about becoming parents. Workshops for the adults cover a variety of subjects including:
 

Financial Planning for our Families
Legal Protection
Assisted Reproduction
Being a Dad in a Mom's World
2nd Parent Adoption
Surrogacy
Who Made Me? Explaining How Your Created Your Family
Raising Special Needs Kids
Considering Becoming a Parent
Multiracial Families

 

and more!

For the first time in its history, the Conference also offers workshops and programming for the children of gay and lesbian parents, led by the national non- profit group COLAGE (Children of Gays & Lesbians Everywhere; www.colage.org). Workshops for kids age 8 and older will include:
 

What's Your Story?
"That's so Gay" -Dealing with Bullying and Homophobia
Do Something! Arts/Games
Speak Up, Speak Out-Media and Public Speaking Workshop
.
 

Children 8 years and older will be able to attend workshops and events with other kids in their peer group (8-11 years old, and 12 years old & up).

And for kids 7 and under, licensed professional daycare will be available with games, music, and entertainment for a day of fun for everyone. (make sure to register before Oct. 15 for daycare)

In addition to over 25 workshops, highlights of the Conference include a keynote address by dynamic activist and NJ lesbian mom Joan Garry (former Executive Director of GLAAD www.glaad.org ) and a teen panel discussion of kids from lesbian and gay parented families.

Registration fees include free parking, breakfast and a hot buffet lunch. Attendees will have opportunities to network, peruse merchandise and resources from vendors, and meet key activists and advocates from the community.
